New Internet Speed Record

internet2bugaloo.jpgIf you liked The Internet Part 1, wait till you see the sequel. The Internet2 Consortium just set a new data transfer speed record using a revised set of protocols, attaining a constant rate of 9.08Gbps. Japanese researchers were able to send the equivalent of a complete 1.5 GB movie in just a few seconds across a 20,000 mile distance. It's too bad our broadband infrastructure is still years away from supporting such transfer rates, as this would make the Apple TV a bit more relevant in this world of HD content and monitors. But team leader Dr. Kei Hiraki projects to achieve speeds of 40GB within 2 years, and 100GB in 6 years. Bring. It. On.
