We still haven't moved over to Twitter. To us, a Facebook addict, Twitter just seems useless when all of our friends on Facebook already see our status updates. We're sort of swayed to jump over in order to follow our favorite celebrities and famous personalities, but this chance to follow our favorite bakery's oven might just make us a Twitteratti...
That's right. The BakerTweet box, an open-source project from London interactive design firm POKE, can be installed in your favorite bakery and lets the bakers there Tweet exactly what's coming out of the oven. It's a high-tech and gourmet version of the Krispy Kreme "Hot Doughnuts" sign:
Everyone knows the best time to get your baked goods is when they're fresh out the oven. So we figured that this could be a killer use of Twitter. Letting followers know that fresh goodies are ready right now. But bakeries don't want laptops or phones lying around in the kitchen. Flour, eggs and technology don't mix so well. So we built BakerTweet.
BakerTweet is a simple little box that sits in the baker's kicthen. You switch a dial to select what's cookin', then push a button to Tweet it. The result is the most effective bit of advertising the 'net has to offer:
