Electrolux sponsored design competition Design Lab is back (check out the 2007 selections), and there are plenty of great small space appliances we'd love to see taken from concept into production, especially the ridiculously lilliputian Drawer Kitchen shown above, with desk-drawer hotplate and fridge design by Nojae Park, Chiba University, Japan. Check out a few of our favourite designs below...

Nine finalists have taken on this year's theme of "appliances for the i-generation", a conceptual competition forecasting some of the design and idea trends three to five years ahead:
Scan Toaster: the USB toaster that prints news, weather and snapshots onto slices of toast, by Sung Bae Chang, Sejong University, South Korea.
Sook: the social networking recipe generator with electronic tongue (?), by Adam Brodowski, Savannah College of Art and Design, USA.
Stratosphere: the sanitizing clothes rack/valet, by Atilla Sáfrány, Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design, Budapest, Hungary.
The Flatshare Fridge appears to be a compact design with the option of stacking additional storage units.

I love the fridge! I think it's a good idea if your are sharing a house or you are student living with other students.

Well, no comment to that, it took me about half an hour to admire these pieces, they all have such a specific style and I love that, I was getting bored with all those standardized appliances on the market. Of course, it's not all just about the looks, their performance it's also extremely important. I am looking forward to see how will the competitors react, I have high expectances from Whirlpool parts.
