The Geek Urn: Your Final Userspace

100809_tf_compcasket1.jpgA traditional urn on the mantle? That's for boring people. When true geeks head up to that cyberspace in the sky, they leave their mortal selves behind on Earth inside classic computers.

100809_tf_compcasket2.jpgThe classic-model SPARCstation workstation console pictured above contains the ashes of a geek, Alan Watson, who will surely go down in history for his commitment to the cause.

After Alan's long battle with a smoking-related illness, his brother saw no better place for Alan than the old computer, graced with a plaque bearing Alan's name and an epitaph from Star Trek. It proved to be a fitting spot for a geek memorial, based on what Alan's brother told Slashdot:

His friends and family were able to leave their final good-byes on post-notes. Anyone who wanted to keep their words private could just slip their note into the case through the floppy slot.

They were planning to bury the computer casket originally. But because Alan's daughters love the idea (and maybe a little bit because keeping old tech on display is a hot trend), it looks like it'll be sticking around.

Hey bro I ran down to the Ace Hardware and got you a $5 plaque...

Sorry but this is a fail. Need to at least bronze it.
