The New Yorker Cover Art: Sent From My iPhone

This little tidbit just serves as a little reminder that technology can be responsible for some beautiful things. The June 1st issue of The New Yorker features cover art that captures New York City and is worthy of being hung on a wall—and it was entirely created using an iPhone application.

Artist Jorge Colombo "painted" this scene standing outside Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in Times Square. He didn't have a canvas set up on the sidewalk, nor did he have a sketchbook in his hands.

He crafted the cover using Brushes, an application for the iPhone. Besides besides the fact that it's a ridiculously awesome idea to draw the cover of The New Yorker with a cell phone, Colombo says he likes the medium because he's able to draw in the dark.

Another bonus? The Brushes Viewer, which allows you to re-play the painting, essentially. The New Yorker's Web site has a video uploaded that captures each brush stroke of their cover being painted. Check it out here.
