The Wilco Loft
loftlife

110309wilco1.jpgOur friends over at loftlife magazine just sent us some photos and information about one of their latest loft tours, this one showcasing the musical surroundings of the band Wilco (also posted over at our Chicago site). With an oriental rug at the center, every other square inch of the loft seems to be crammed full of studio equipment and instruments, with some nice decorative touches like a collection of vintage radios and amps, to soften and personalize what really boils down to a work space...

Forget bric-a-brac; Wilco’s “gear” crowds every inch of the space—pianos, keyboards, sound boards, guitars, amps (new and old) fight for elbow room over a mishmash of traditional Oriental rugs. A row of communal bunk beds lines one end of the room, perfect for creative catnaps or to houseguests before and after tours, but no one sleeps there on a regular basis.

We've often heard the term "the rug pulls it altogether", but here's an example where a rug actually does pull everything together. The disparate elements of studio/music gear partnered with decorative touches somehow all work thanks to the intricate detailing and the rich colours of the rugs. It also helps the keyboards are red and the large overhead globe lighting gives the space a warm glow mirrored on all the wood surfaces of furniture and instruments alike.

I've been trying to find this magazine but have had no luck. I am a huge fan of Wilco and I love their loft. It's great to see one of my favorite bands and one if my interests (interterior decor) meet together.

Yomon: your best bet is to subscribe and contact the publisher for back issues. I'd offer you my copy, but I haven't received it yet myself.
