Necessity is the mother of invention, right? The subliminal message that shouts in every hacker's ear as he crafts some custom solution to a common problem has struck again as a Lifehacker reader built a super-custom desk. If you're having a problem finding a desk to suit your needs, take a cue from this project and find a carpenter...

His desk includes custom cubbies for speakers, desk supplies, his home phone and iPhone dock and still left plenty of space to work on.
The MacBook, sitting in the top right corner of the desk, is actually raised on cantilevered beams of wood (like two diving boards) to give plenty of cooling air circulation.
The custom-built fun extends underneath the desk, where the keyboard and mouse sit on a slide-out tray and the printer and subwoofer each have their own supports underneath the surface of the desk.

Plans? The whole point of custom is that you make your own plans to fit your own needs.
