Weird Stuff Caught on Google Street View
Version 2.0: Great Britain

032009_tf_ukgoogle_m.jpgJust recently, Google unleashed what many Britons had been waiting for: their streets have officially been immortalized on Google Maps' Google Street View. But since it was a long overdue event, plenty of residents got wind of what was going on long before those funny-looking camera cars (one was accidentally caught on camera, too) wound up and down their streets. It's kinda like those guys in Pennsylvania who planned that 17th century swordfight and all those other hijinks. Only this time, it looks like Google is behind some of it (!).

The Daily Mail did a little round up of some of the great vignettes captured when Google Street View went live for the UK yesterday. And either Google knows a lot more about everyone in the world that non-conspiracy theorists would think (not a stretch of the imagination, actually), or the Goog'ster was in on this: They asked Britons to find Waldo (yes, as in Where's Waldo) somewhere on their streets.

This morning, someone on Twitter did spot Waldo on Putney High Street. And there's so much more to see:

A woman crosses the street at Abbey Road, unintentionally recreating the album cover for The Beatles' album of the same name.

The Daily Mail claims Google planted the characters Paddington Bear in where else but Paddington, Sherlock Holmes in Oxford and a female Tower of London guard or "Beefeater" in Birmingham.
