Why Hide Lesser-Used Appliances?

082609_tf_appliancestorage1.jpgI recently spent far longer than I needed to standing in the kitchen appliance aisle at my favorite home store trying to pick out the perfect toaster. Then it dawned on me: I am just going to hide it in the cabinet above my refrigerator anyways, so why in the world am I this concerned about how it looks?

Maybe I'll stop hiding my adorable toaster and instead take a cue from this snapshot found at KitchenBathIdeas!

Instead of being hidden away in cabinets and panties, this array of gorgeous stainless steel appliances sits at home on open shelves, showing off their gorgeous reflective surfaces even when not in use.

I mean, we display vintage video games and music players as decor, so why not make our working appliances do double-duty, too?

We put everything away because it looks less cluttered and affords more countertop working space. Time to open cabinet, get toaster, plug in = 4 seconds.

This is a picture of a collection, not actual items for use.

I get the connection but....this requires all your displayed appliances are top notch $$$$ and match in some way. No $20 toasters!

For me the bigger issue is dedicating more time and energy to keep them clean, shiny and dust free. Isn't that the real reason we have doors on our cabinets and put things away in the kitchen?

Cabinets and panties, eh? :)

I think the above is a beautiful example, but the likelihood of that happening in my kitchen is a zero... I just don't have vintage/high ticket items that are worthy of a display. Love the idea though...
