Apple Magic Mouse: The First Multi-Touch Mouse

Of all the new hardware announcements made today from Cupertino, the one that we most covet is the smallest in size. The new Magic Mouse takes brings gesture command that any iPhone, MacBook Pro or Touch user is already acquainted with and brings it to the mouse form factor...

The svelte and aerodynamic laser tracking Magic Mouse has been designed to operate as a seamless multi-touch surface, with buttons integrated as a tap surface instead of a physical button.

Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

The new mouse comes standard with the new iMacs (27" LED back-lit displays are nothing to sniffle at) also introduced today and is also available separately for $69 from Apple. We're sure to set out to get a review unit, as we're dying to see how the the multi-touch feature works in day to day use compared to our trusty Wacom Bamboo setup.

What about the side buttons?
I didn't see anything regarding those in any of the literature.

However, this will be much better than the old mouse, where the scroll wheel constantly loses traction.

interesting concept - i'll check it out at the apple store.

i'm hoping they get it right this time. i've been using the mighty mouse for 3 years and have gotten used to its flaws.
