Crashing Economy Means HDTV Buying Opportunities Ahead

103008_an_shopping_lcd.jpgWhile the stock markets continue downwards in a very depressing manner, you may enjoy hearing this teensy bit of good news. If you're in the market for a flat panel TV, there's no better time to buy one than the next coming months. Especially with Black Friday just around the corner, prices are expected to tumble - even sooner to help rake in the sales. Here's Paul Gagnon, DisplaySearch’s director of North American TV market research, to give us a few optomistic numbers for the holiday season...

Here are the numbers. Cue the drumroll, please.

19-inch high-definition LCD: $199 32-inch HD LCD: $399-$499 40-inch 1080p LCD: $799-$999 42-inch HD plasma: $599-$699 50-inch HD plasma: $899-$999

Not bad, we say. $399 is an extremely convincing sweet spot for a 32" LCD HDTV, even if it is an off-brand.

Hmmm... so does that mean I can get say... a 26" for about $299??
I was gonna wait until after the New Year to get one, but it seems like I might be better off (financially) getting one sooner if the prices drop.

HOLY CRAP!!! THIS THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY!!!! The bf and I have been wanting a flat-panel and he's even been saving up for one. I'm going to keep my eye on Circuit City too. I used to work at their corporate office here in Richmond, VA and I know for a fact that they're not doing well so I bet you a dollar they will be having some kick-ass sales in the very near future.

you can get a 32" lcd tv for 399-499 right now, i think the main question here would be what quality of tv could be had for that price.

i can go grab you a 32" for 499 at best buy right now, but if you want something with some quality components and lasting power, it'll cost you.

I can't wait until Circuit City goes bankrupt and starts selling all their cool tech stuff for huge %'s off! Hmm..now that I think about it, I wonder if they'll be doing that in the 150 stores that they're closing today?!

Monica:
...as long as Circuit City can manage not to close forever before your new warranty expires!
