News: Asus To Make An Eee Desktop

2008-1-31-asuseee.jpgAsus announced yesterday an all-in-one desktop version of its highly popular Eee portable PC will be released in September. Quickly labeled the "iMac Killer", this 19-20" PC will cost around $500, a third of the cost of Apple's popular all-in-one. Curious? More details below the jump.

The system will run Linux, just like the portable model and the cost is kept low by using Intel's Shelton platform. A TV tuner is included, so you'll be able to watch and record your favorite shows.

If you're looking to replace your TV entirely, Asus also announced an E-TV, a prototype seen above, which is housed in a 42 inch television and will likely be priced within $200 of a comparable TV-only set.

Puhleeze. Where did the iMac "killer" meme come from? It uses Linux, which appeals to geeks and gearheads. It doesn't run OSX so why bother?
