News: iTunes Store Creates a Movie Bargain Bin

111208_tf_itunesfivers.JPGI have an addictive habit that has decreased the change in my pockets by a little, but increased my DVD collection by leaps and bounds. On Fridays or Saturdays—or any days, really—when a friend and I are in one of those 'we-wanna-stay-in-and-watch-a-flick' moods, instead of heading to Blockbuster, we've taken to heading to Wal-Mart and picking up a $4.98 DVD out of their big bargain bins. Sure, sometimes there's nothing there and you just have to delight in the thrill of the chase. But sometimes you find a hidden gem, like the copy of the Rocky Horror Picture Show I scored a little while back. The iTunes store wants to bring that same fun to their new "This Week's Great Movies Under $5" section...

"This Week's Great Movies Under $5" (iTunes link) brings together a small batch of movies all available for under $5. They're all a bit older and the selection this week offers a strong Schwarzenegger presence with titles like Terminator 2: Judgement Day, The Last Action Hero and The Karate Kid.

The naming of the section also hints that these movies probably won't stay in the bin for very long, either. So snatch 'em up for your movie nights, people! The same price as a rental at the video store and you get to keep 'em forever (Well, kinda... but we won't get into those DRM politics right now).

Let me rip them to DVD and then you have a legitimate comparison. Until then paying any amount of money for content that I can't use on anything except Apple hardware.
