News: Netbooks are Netbooks Since Trademark's Resolved

060409_tf_netbooknamed.jpgIf it looks like a Netbook and works like a Netbook, then it's a Netbook—right? Well, until recently, no. Mobile hardware manufacturer Psion actually trademarked the term "Netbook." But since the term has become a like a Xerox of Kleenex in terms of a brand name identifying a generic product, in this case a compact notebook computer that fits oh so well into Small, Cool lifestyles, companies like Intel and Dell have been fighting to be able to use the term...

According to an article on NYTimes.com, Psion and Intel settled their disagreement this week, with Psion voluntarily dropping its trademark on "netbook."

This leaves manufacturers free to sell their teeny, tiny laptops formally as 'netbooks' from here on out.
