We've had more than one of our readers send is horror stories about bad HDTV experiences - malfunctions ranging from fading color to cheap remotes, bad picture and sets completely failing after a year. Luckily, there are always outlets for feedback when it comes to consumer satisfaction, especially in our day in age. So it was no surprise PC World knew who to ask first when it came to composing a survey on HDTV brand satisfaction - the readers themselves. The chart kind of speaks for itself, but we've included a few highlights after the jump.
"PC World's annual Reliability and Service survey lets our readers rate leading vendors in several tech-product categories. This year more than 16,000 respondents shared their likes and dislikes about their high-def TVs and the companies that sell them. Participants rated each company and its products relative to competitors by nine measures, such as customer satisfaction, quality of phone service, severity of hardware problems, and ease of use (our chart here shows five)." -PC World
Whether or not the chart truly brings to light any relevant information other than personal preference, we'd like to take it with a grain of salt but also make a note that customer satisfaction is a multiple step process that manufacturers must address carefully if they wish to create fans of their brand. For instance, despite their large strides in bringing down the LCD prices these last few years, Westinghouse has yet to fulfill their part in reliability of their sets. Mitsubishi comes in last with more negative marks than any manufacturer.
Personally, I'm a Sony fan, but I've owned sets from Sharp, Samsung, Toshiba, and LG - all have fared well in our test labs and we'd highly recommend any of those brands.
We'd like to ask the readers this; does brand matter? If so, what makes you continue to come back to it?

Wow. This really surprises me. I've never owned a Sony TV, but I've had many random electronics from them over the years that had so many problems. They turned me off from Sony forever.
My current brand of choice is Panasonic. I have a TV, DVD player and cordless phone from them, and they have all been perfectly reliable from day one.

yeah - I've owned two sony tube tvs - both ended up having problems. That sorta turned me off of sony. But they can do game consoles just fine. I have a mits dlp projector that developed a color wheel noise after a year of use so that's sorta turned me off mits now...
Panasonic has been a good brand to me though.

I'm about to get rid of my little 13" tube tv that I've had since jr. high for a flat screen 19" Westinghouse tv. The 13" works fine but I really want a pretty flat screen because the old tv is just so big and bulky. At least the Westinghouse tv is energy star rated. Here's hoping it doesn't crap out on me for at least 10 years.

Wow. I'm surprised the Vizio is so high up since they're typically considered a bargain brand.
