Look! Soundproof Wallpaper

042808_sz_soundproof.jpgWhen you have a home recording studio aesthetics tend to get thrown out the door. In order to properly sound proof your space you have to use ugly egg-crate gray foam or eighties looking acoustic panels, but there are other options...

Los Angeles-based commercial and movie composer Brad Breeck uses his second bedroom as a recording space. With neighbors downstairs though, he needed to make sure he wasn't disturbing them. Problem is, if you rent, you can't really do anything too permanent or damaging.

Breeck decided to put rubber on the floors, underneath the carpet to dampen some of the sounds, and then IKEA quilted down blankets on the walls. That's right. The white, tile-like walls you see are actually blankets.

"The neighbors still hear if I'm doing something really loud, but it stops a lot of the sound," says Breeck. "I put the blankets up to treat the sound in the room more than anything -- the room was really echoey before the blankets were there, but now the sound is manageable."

You're right. I wasn't sure what to put it as since I did see it at Design*Sponge but I got the image from Flickr. I'm still new at this. I changed it to Look!
