The WWDC was disappointing . . . my AAPL stock dropped 4 bucks because of it. On top of that, it's almost torturous waiting til October for the new Leopard Operating system!
I'm looking forward to October, although we'll only be able to run Leopard on one of our macs, as its the only Intel. The others will be "stuck" running 10.4.
I've been running Safari 3 beta on Windows at work and like the search features, although I don't notice any speed difference versus Firefox. I've also noticed it has some problems with multi-monitor setups. Anybody else trying it out?

On a separate topic - which I didn't see addressed elsewhere on the site but apologize if I missed it - I do not own a tv but would like to be able to get the major US networks - and record a couple of shows - on my Windows laptop. I know the networks' websites now have most shows available but I would like better fullscreen picture quality, full control over which episodes I want to watch when and, of course, the ability to circumvent the mandatory ads. Is this possible with a tv tuner card? Are there better ways? What are the pluses/minuses? I don't really have room for a TV in my apartment. Thanks for your suggestions!

AAPL almost always has a significant drop in the aftermath of Jobs' keynotes. Typically the rumor mills get a goin' in the weeks before the keynote. 3/4 of the predictions fall short, so a bunch of people sell their stock. Within a week or two, it is usually over where it was before the keynote. Most analysts are predicting AAPL to go up to 140 in the coming months. Think of the drop as a good time to buy more! ;)
As for the keynote being disappointing, it is a developers conference after all. As much as I would have liked to see new hardware (C'mon Apple! An nVidia 7300GT as the default in the Mac Pro!?!?), this conference is for Apple devs, and much of the under-the-hood stuff for Leopard looks very exciting!

Is it ok to post idiot questions here? I know HomeTech is for actually techies, not ignorami like myself, but frankly I'm too lazy to find a new forum.
I don't have a stereo at the moment. My mom is about to give me hers, which is old, but good. I'm going to pass on the enormous archaic speakers, however. I don't have an ipod (**gasp**) but I'm sure I will eventually be assimilated. Therefore, I need speakers which will work with the stereo and the hypothetical ipod/ipod-substitute. I love the idea of wireless speakers, since I have a smallish house and would love to have just one stereo and roam around to any room or the yard with them. But I don't really understand how they work and if they would work for my purpose. Oh, and I'm really broke. Any suggestions?
Also, I've asked before -- how about a wireless speaker round-up? Please?

mjoe, it's hardly an idiot question and Home Tech is for everyone, not just techies.
Here's two past posts to point you in the right direction to start...and thanks for the suggestion for the wireless speaker round-up. One of us will have to take that question up and do some research.

In response to nwu, a tv tuner card will do the trick. Back when I had a PC, I used a Happauge card to watch and record tv on my computer. The software was pretty good back then, and I'm sure its gotten even better.
ATI also makes tv tuner cards, but I don't have experience with them.
We have a Miglia TVMax with our Mac Mini (not a tv card, per-se, but its the same deal) and love it. You can schedule things to record, edit out commercials, and generally have a good time without having to have a clunky tv around.

Can someone recommend an iPod speaker/dock for under $50? Just something to have at the office, the volume will always be low, so it doesn't have to be great.
mjoe - as long as it has an audio input jack, it will work with any MP3 player electronic device, including iPods (through the headphone jack on the iPod). The things that we tend to feature here on HT are either specifically for iPods, as in they have a special dock to connect them to the device, or we don't mention that they can be hooked up to an iPod, but will usually work that way via audio input.
What we do at home is run a cord from the jack on our tuner/amplifier and just rest our iPod on top of it when we want to hook it up.

Thanks, Kate. I saw those articles before but it's still not clear to me whether they will work with both a traditional stereo and an ipod. Anyone?
Also, question about noise-cancelling headphones. I want to get a pair for my incredibly noise-sensitive mother. Saw this round up in NYT today:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/14/technology/14pogue.html?pagewanted=1&ei=5070&en=dcb5b74c067049e5&ex=1182484800&emc=eta1
and wondering if anyone has any experience with these, or if there are any (cheaper than Bose) that NYT missed?
Thanks!

I know this is not tech related but it came up on the Webble post :
The shooz that I (and others!) liked so much are from Bernie Mev. I emailed the Webble guys and they told me. I have found them here http://www.whatapair.com/wp~aspx~iid_BM-DIDI~dim1_LTR~dim2_Red~pw~itemDetail.htm but they don't have the red soles. I just thought ppl might like to know.

oh and the soles are different so i emailed the company. someone let me know who to inform if they email me back.
