PowerBlock

2008-1-23powerblock.jpgNeed a place to stash your cords? This surge protector comes with its own camouflage. Well, maybe it doesn't blend in, but it looks a lot better than a mass of wires.

The PowerBlock will set you back over 100 euros, but as far as we can tell it's only available in France. What do you think, clever storage or design overkill?

100 euros seems a little pricey.

Could it be painted to match the wall?

Looks like a relatively easy DIY.

That is exactly the kind of thing I need to hide the cords under my desk. I'm low tech.

Figures that it is not available in the U.S.

That thing seems kind of bulky. It would be cool if it was:
- Cheaper
- Smaller
- Able to be painted
- Available in different colors/finishes/textures

I also think someone could make something like this fairly easily.

Belkin's Conceal is 3/4 of this, at 1/3 of the price. The only substantial difference is that it doesn't hide the wall socket too, but a cable coming straight down from a wall socket into a baseboard-height box is pretty clean.

I especially like how the Conceal has one external plug on it, so you can still plug in one thing when you need to without opening it up.
