Too Many Remotes? Here's an Idea for Clearing Your Coffee Table...

021809_tf_remotevase1.JPGWith a media room packed with gadgets for TV, DVD, Blu Ray, Digital Cable, CD and MP3 entertainment, remote storage is sure to get tricky. You could turn to our post on the best remote control storage solutions for help, or just get a little inspiration from this photo we found on Foto Flat. A simple piece of glassware, the kind meant to corral short-stemmed flowers or fruit most likely, is the perfect size and shape for elegantly storing your remotes where they're still at an arm's reach. Perfect!

Sure, you could go out and buy a ready-made remote caddy. But most can be kind of ugly or not, how do way say.... soft enough for a really cozy home.

This idea is heaps better looking, plus it has the added bonus of being as cheap as you'd like it to be. Get an expensive vase from a designer store, grab a mid-range canister from Crate & Barrel, or go super-inexpensive with the selection of glassware at Ikea.

Great idea! My first thought was that I have one of these at home I'm going to have to try: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30011832

I guess I am very AT en vogue. Not only have I already employed that solution, I have the exact same 4 remotes in my glass. Comcast, Tivo, a Samsung Plasma, and (I think) the Olevia Blu-Ray player!

Please let us know when a company has created an I-pod touch-like remote control that will have widgets for your stereo, dvd player, plasma, voodoo, anything and everything that would need a remote. I want ONE remote control, not a tumbler with several in it ;-)

I went through all sorts of trays/holder for the plethora of remotes and then I finally gave in and bought one of the Logitech Universal Remotes - http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/remotes/universal_remotes/&cl=us,en (I got the 550 on eBay for a Great price! Less than half retail)

I know it's pricey but, it controls my Olevia TV, Sony receiver, Tivo, DVD player, PS2, and even Front Row on Macs.

The cool things is that you plug it into your computer via USB and add all the devices to so as new products come out, they are added to their database so you are not stuck in a few years with an outdated remote and their list of devices is the biggest I've ever scene.

I Highly recommend it.

Oh, well look at that! Need to brush up on my technology knowledge, I suppose. Thanks modernguy. Still, though, I want it to be as sleek and small as the I-pod touch. I'm sure Steve Jobs has one in his home that he's planning on revealing in 2011.

And for more options (including the idea of just getting a universal remote, as modernguy suggests), see my blog post from a couple days ago.
