Green Sleep: Eco-Friendly Mattresses

50208_sz_catbed.jpgDid you know that your current mattress may have polyurethane and formaldehyde in it. Not only are those harmful materials for the environment, they aren't the best chemicals to be sleeping on. Unless, you know, you're already dead and need to be preserved.

For those of use that want to rest green there's Keetsa, an eco-bedding company that not only makes green beds, it's designed their mattresses to have a smaller carbon footprint as it travels from their warehouse to your home...

Keetsa's mattresses, which start at $385, are built with recycled and sustainable materials including reused steel, scrap memory foam bits, bamboo fabrics and unbleached natural cotton. Odor control and anti-bacterial properties are delivered using EPA-approved technologies based on silver and green tea.

Different mattress styles use varying degrees of sustainable components, so the company uses a scoring card to let you know how green your new bed is. As if that wasn't cool enough, the company has developed a way to compress their large mattresses to fit into a wheeled box, made from recycled cardboard, natch. If you buy from the store you can just wheel it to your car or on the subway. If you get it delivered (and delivery is free!) it takes up less space on the van so they can fit more in one drive, and it's easy to wheel into your room. No more hijinx trying to move around corners with an 80+ inch bed.

Once unpacked the mattress resumes its full shape within one to three days. Obviously they can't do the same with box springs though.
