Gunnar Optiks: Eyewear Combats Computer Eye Strain
...and Makes You Look Like a Stand-in for Tom Cruise

011509gunnar001.jpgWe must average at least 10 hours of our day staring at our computer. That's enough time to seriously risk eye strain (and the reason we take breaks away from the computer on the weekend). San Diego company Gunnar Optiks is offering an interesting line of eye wear specifically designed to alleviate the inevitable eye fatigue that arises from staring at an artificially illuminated plane throughout the day...

011509gunnar02.jpg011509gunnar003.jpgThe funny thing is we've been seeing billboards of these glasses and thought they were just some strangely, ill-conceived marketed Oakley wanna-be; they mention "digitally designed", but give no indicator that their design is aimed at helping the average pixel pusher (and perhaps avid gamer) keep their eyes healthy.

011509gunnar005.jpgThe folks over at MedGadget gave Gunnar Optiks a modest seal of approval (the build quality is noted as lightweight, but not overly impressive); there line seems to embody "office dude chic", but improve reducing harsh blue light while also providing a +1.25 magnification with an anti-reflective coating that reduces eye fatigue. We're a little baffled about the design of these glasses, as we couldn't imagine ourselves wearing these without feeling like we should be playing beach volley ball or asking Lance to go out for a ride, no matter how much good they do our eyes. Give us the "old fashioned grammar teacher" look...we'd prefer it, even if our lenses make us look like extras from the next installment of Mission Impossible.

these all seem quite masculine and a bit futuristic to the point of being gimmicky. it will get them noticed, but I hope they diversify their product line. my eyes would surely appreciate it!

That makes two of us. My style doesn't gel with the Tour de Lance style shades, but I'm interested how they might ease eye fatigue on a day-to-day basis.
