The Simplehuman Automatic Sensor Soap Pump

111009simplehumansensor1.jpgDespite all indications shown up above, the Simplehuman sensor soap pump does not dispense a wi-fi signal. Instead, what you've got for your resident germaphobe + technophile is a hands-free way to automatically dispense some microbe washing solution (aka soap)…

111009simplehumansensor2.jpgThe Simplehuman sensor soap pump is basically a small consumer level device that should be recognizable to anyone who has used a public restroom in the last 5 years. An LED display lights up when the sensor is activated, the unit offers four volume settings, and can be used with soap or lotion, powered by 4 AA batteries.

I have another version of soap dispenser made by Simplehuman, and it is entombed with my other great idea in theory gadgets. First, I have to replace 4 AA batteries every 2 months. Second, the liquid soap clogs the nozzle so I have to unclog the semi-dried soap to make it work.

We've gone through two of these soap pumps. They work great at first, but then it started dying. We were constantly replacing batteries, thinking that was the problem. Finally, we think the pump gave up or something since it would make a noise but no soap would come out. We also tried to see if there was a clog from too-thick soap, but if there was we couldn't clear it. Great idea, I just wish it worked for more than a year.

I have the older version. If you leave it alone for a day or two it will dry up and clog. I went out of town once and came back trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Not only did it clog but I opened it up and the gear mechanism was sticky with soap. After I cleaned it and played with the sensor for a little while it got going again. I noticed that if you use the a thinner type soap that you also get more soap out of it and can use the setting that dispenses the least soap. I really like it overall because I am a serious hand washer (LOL) but wish the soap would clog if I don't use it for a day or two.
