Cellphone Alarm Amp

2007-05-02-cell alarm.jpg

Do you use your cell phone as an alarm? This concept design promises to enhance your cell phone's ring and make it just a bit louder to help you wake up in the morning. London-based designer Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad describes the product design as "Mobile phones are rapidly replacing the alarm clock. The glass vessel amplifies the vibration and directs the sound."

To us, this looked curiously like a stemless wineglass so we took out our $1.99 version from World Market and placed our phone in to see how it fared. Honestly, the sound was more muffled inside than out of the glass. But...the vibration was quite effective, more so than any annoying ringtone you could find. So, if you have a tendency to leave your phone on vibrate and trouble waking to your phone, try putting it in a glass.

I can just imagine knocking this off my nightstand and then putting my bare foot into broken glass. But I'm a bit of a disaster in the morning, so perhaps others would have more luck.

nice idea, except for the fact that those of us who use our cellphones as alarms also tend to have them charging during the night as well. The lovely, stylish cup wouldn't look or work as nicely with a cord sticking out of it.
