Cordless Home Telephones

2007-12-06vtech.jpgCordless home phones aren't nearly as sexy as HDTV, digital cameras or the latest well-designed Apple product, but manufacturers continue to fuse function and fashion, offer stronger reception, and give you the capability to make calls over the Internet. If it's been a while since your last telephone purchase, it might be time to consider a serious upgrade in your cordless phone's capabilities.

When checking out new options, you're likely to see DECT highlighted as a big feature. DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology, now in its sixth generation. What makes DECT so noteworthy? Check out the details after the jump.

Unlike cordless phones on the 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz frequency, DECT 6.0 offers clearer calls, works further from its base than ever before, and provides a securer connection than ever before (to prevent eavesdropping).

Also, DECT 6.0 phones are set up to not interfere with other wireless items in your home, such as Wi-Fi, microwave ovens, baby monitors and wireless game controllers.

One we really like the look of is the super-thin Vtech Model 6041, which resembles an open Motorola RAZR cell phone, comes with a slew of features, and has two phones that operate off of one line. The set of two retails for $80, which seemed to be the best deal, and is directly from Vtech.

sob! so far vTech is the only DECT phone manufacturer to upgrade on form. I was all ready to press the buy button *until* I read the amazon reviewers take on this phone.

I have this phone and it is the best land line by far. It has crystal clear sound and it doesn't interfere with other electronics or computers in the house. It is also designed beautifully.
