Icono The Finger Phone: How To Use Your Fingers To Phone

101608_rg_fingerphone_01.jpgThis sounds like something nasty, but actually it's just another phone concept. This time around, it's not a cell phone but a home phone. This phone is designer by Zinc Chan from London in the UK. The phone is based in two parts, an earphone and a microphone. By using the phone, your thumb and pinkie take the iconic telephone gesture.

Users dial the number using a touchscreen and an animated path that is shown on it. People will start remembering numbers by the unique pattern rather than numbers. We don't know if this is a good thing really. The designer says that this creates a more emotional interaction between the phone and the user.

101608_rg_fingerphone_02.jpgWe're looking forward to when we actually won't need a telephone at all. It will just be implanted in your head or fingers, whichever happens first.

Of course it "more emotional interaction between the phone and the user" - using this phone, you'd not juts look like an idiot, you'd FEEL more like one too.

(I'm a designer and I get annoyed when I hear that kind of excuse - "it's an emotional thing" - for some idiotic user-experience)

For me this is a step in the wrong direction. The problem with most phones (at least for me) is having to dedicate a hand to holding the phone. Headsets are ok but I haven't found one yet that provides a volume level that matches the phone. Every bluetooth headset I've tried has been a disappointment. So I'd prefer to see hands free innovations. This is terrible. Unlike a regular handset that can be held in place between the neck and shoulder, this truly requires the use of a hand. Not only that, it looks very uncomfortable.
