Acerbis Integrated Projection Screen Unveils Up!

060809acerbis01.jpgThe common solution for a projection screen setup is to either install a pull-down screen (like the one we have in our apartment) or to place or paint a permanent surface to project a picture onto. An interesting design from Acerbis turns the usual setup topsy turvy by concealing a projection screen within a shelving unit, and having the screen open upward, with an integrated wall length shelving system with backlighting for optimal home theater effects...

060809acerbis04.jpgThe modular Acerbis home theater elements were recently shown at the Salone del Mobile 2009 and showcased systems that automatically open up and roll back up to hide away the screen when not in use. All were part of the New Concepts Composition collection.

We're wondering how hard it would be to DIY a modular automatic unrolling and lift system like this since we don't love having our current hanging projection screen despite its relatively unobtrusive appearance, as we expect these Milan-based designs to cost a pretty penny.

It's about time.

Now they need to integrate it into some high end furniture.

DIY is relatively easy. Just ask any geek (I'm a geek ;->).

Hang out in home theater forums and you'll get loads of tutorials.
