Sony: SXRD Projectors Claim Affordability, Fail Miserably

While we've been holding our horses for the next biggest thing to complete our home theater arsenal; high-definition projectors. However, it seems to be taking manufacturers a bit longer than expected to start churning some affordable goods. Sure, the specs are get impressive by the day, but enough with the 60,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio - we're looking for something sub-$2000, please.

Specifications for VPL-VW70:

* 1080p resolution
* Bravia Engine 2 video signal processing
* 24p True Cinema Technology
* 60,000:1 dynamic contrast
* Brightness of 800 ANSI lumens
* Anamorphic Zoom Mode

Specifications for VPL-HW10:

* 1080p resolution
* Bravia Engine 2 video signal processing
* 24p True Cinema Technology
* 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
* Brightness of 1,000 ANSI lumens for more standard applications.

The units will retail for $8,000 (VPL-VW70) and $3,500 (VPL-HW10) and becomes available in November and September, respectively.
