Behind the Blog: Obey Giant

081508_an_behind_the_blog_obey.jpgIt's not everyday you meet a living legend in contemporary art. Shepard Fairey, the man behind the Obey Giant campaign and overtly political and music inspired pieces that have received recognition worldwide, opened his doors recently and allowed us into his studio where all of the magic happens.

From NOTCOT:

081508_an_behind_the_blog_obey2.jpg"Ok, so i am still kind of giddy from how awesome it was to meet Shepard Fairey and his studio pretty much blew my mind. To see what type of space other creatives work in is one thing… but to feel like you walked into a gallery filled with history and inspiration and visual food for thought in every detail, well that just floored me."

081508_an_behind_the_blog_obey3.jpgWhile we've covered many ideas about combining mixmatched frames to complement your work area, it's always amazing to see it pulled off so well to effectively convey and reflect one's own personality, departing from having "random art everywhere" to something that is absolutely breathtaking.

081508_an_behind_the_blog_obey4.jpg081508_an_behind_the_blog_obey5.jpgA classic Obama print has made its rounds and is one of the most popular pieces from Shepard within recent months.

081508_an_behind_the_blog_obey6.jpg"And for the record, he was one of the kindest, humblest, down to earth folks i’ve met in a while. It was great to see that he still has so much passion for what he does, and gets down right giddy when talking about his new projects (and politics)."

I'm personally a huge fan of Shepard Fairey, in both his Obey Giant art and clothing line, and it's incredibly fulfilling to be able to write about one of my heroes growing up. If anyone is interested, TheGiant.org covers all of his contemporary work, so feel free to drop by and check it out!

dudes, are you sure that's a mouse? Looks a lot like the Russian Hampster's that bit me throughout childhood.
