Multicolored and Green, all in one: Rag-bag is a line of messenger bags, foldable shopping bags, wallets and planner cases made of recycled plastic bags from New Delhi, India.
The bags are gathered by "ragpickers" in the slums of New Delhi, then washed, dried, separated by color, and then pressed into thicker, more durable layers of plastic. Each sheet of recycled plastic is made of about 60 plastic bags. No dyes or inks are used in the process of recycling the bags.
After the sheets are made, they're cut, lined with cloth, and stitched in to various items. The process already employs 50 ragpickers, mostly women who support their families with the proceeds. Check out a video on the process here.
