As Microsoft's lead in user experience quoted recently, "Windows' point of view is about adding value and solving distractions." But the buck doesn't just stop at productivity - there's much more to Windows 7 than meets the eye. We list our top 10 favorite features in Microsoft's newest addition to the Windows family, after the jump.
Our short list goes a little something like this:
- It's a snappy, quick, and painless install.
- It has an overhauled taskbar to maximize productivity.
- It has an Expose-like feature called Aero Shake that allows quick decluttering of the desktop.
- It has an even better way to organize your files using Libraries, which we totally love, and has great search features to rival Mac's Spotlight.
- It has some pretty cool wallpapers.
- It plays nice with Macs when it comes to network file sharing (or you could just use Dropbox).
- It's compatible with pretty much all earlier Windows software.
- It has a new side-by-side view for document comparison called, "Stacking."
- It has a smarter UAC, something that drove us literally insane with Vista.
- It's totally touch-friendly!
What are your favorite features in Windows 7? Let us know below!
The balancing act. Ah, all is well in the Unplggd community. ;)
This looks refreshing. A bit thicker than Vista (at least the start bar looks that way) but still keeping a much more modernized look over XP's playskool theme.
The non-nature/architecture wallpapers are interesting/funny which I suppose is targeted at my age group or the slightly younger high school group.
I'd like to say more but I don't have a copy nor have I seen it on the PCs at the shops. Definitely something to play with.

is it a fake post or something ?
try to plug ANY i mean ANY professional device ( from soundcards to spectro controllers ) and you'll see why seven has still a lot to go to be at least as handy as a good old xp ...

@ichrocke Well the post did say software.. if you're referring to hardware, that's the manufacturer's job to support the devices with drivers imho..

I'd like more information about this "Stack" feature. I can't seem to find it.
@ichrocke: You should probably complain to your device manufacturers as it's their responsibility to keep their products up to date with the latest OS. It's not rational to assume that XP would be the last OS MS ever released. It's been nearly 10 years already.

Um... "pretty cool wallpapers"... and that's a reason to love an OS? Also, "it plays well with Macs"... Yeah... isn't that one of the BARE minimum an OS should do? lol Did I miss the Snow Leopard "10 Things We Love About"? lol How much did they pay you? lol Ridiculous.

that's what you love about it? It's like saying "I love this because it meets all the minimum expectations."
