It's that time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, and with temperatures being oh so low here in New York, we cannot help but set our thoughts on ways to keep our homes warmer. Often life provides the inspiration for our posts and today's is no exception, it is the very cold temperatures that we are experiencing in our apartment that has prompted this roundup of heating solutions.
Unless you are like the hardy souls in the recent New York Times article, For Some a Warm House Is Not a Priority who go through the Winter without using the heat, you are probably looking for ways to more efficiently heat your space. In this roundup we have taken some of our favorite heating solutions and categorized them by the size of the space that they heat, beginning with a small studio and ending with a house. While we know that not everyone who lives in an apartment rents, for simplicity's sake we targeted our studio picks to renters and our house picks to homeowners.

Avoid the Sharper Image Tabletop heater. I sent mine back when I found out that my hair dryer was even better.

The picture with the toilet paper rolls - Th brick wall in the background looks alot like the walls in my apartment. Have you ever considered painting them in a way that accents the texture of the brick??

I get so frustrated when links in these posts lead to other posts which lead to another blog which FINALLY, if I'm LUCKY lead to a place to get a price. Never mind the good stuff is hardly ever available in the US.
Can we make a rule? Please?

The Vornado whole room heaters are amazing - I bought the Icontrol model and it takes my freezing 55 degree apt to 73 in 15-20 minutes. It isn't scary, looks nice and has a timer. my ceilings are 11.5' and the room is about 400 square feet.

the question is, if you live in a small studio apartment is it more cost effective to buy a space heater, or to just turn the heat on. any thoughts on this?

It would be nice if there were a direct link to the product page embedded in each of the pictures. Or at the very least the NAME of the product inside the picture so that we know which link to follow within the post.
Is it just me or are things getting really sloppy around AT again?
