Roundup: Five (Easy) Ways to Plunge the Wooden Stake in Vampire Energy

Last April Good Magazine and animator Nigel Holmes created a video that explains how wasteful vampire power is. In the short film, Nigel narrates us through the cost of keeping your computer, microwave, and other electronics plugged in when they're not in use. It's a cute video and we thought it would be a good introduction to a roundup of surge protectors that help you eliminate juice sucking appliances from taking over your electricity bill... 102008_sz_smartstrips.jpg

that belkin adapter is great, but when is the 10-outlet version on the website going to be available?

I use several single outlet switchers that I got at the 99-cent store. Great for leaving the cell phone charger in the wall, but being able to turn it on/off with the switch. I would be concerned about buying electronics at the 99-cent store if it weren't for the fact that the ones for $5.99 at the hardware store are identical - even the same packaging.

I don't know about the 10-outlet version, but Newegg.com apparently has the Belkin 8-outlet version in stock: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812107174&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Surge Suppressors-_-Belkin-_-12107174
