Haha, I wouldn't think Linux users desired fancy-GUI things like screensavers. :P

I haven't used a screen saver in about a decade. I just turn off the monitor of put a notebook to sleep when I walk away.

Also, aren't screen saver's unnecessary with LCDs?

Totally unnecessary, and a waste of electricity. Any modern computer can put the LCD screen into low-power mode after a certain period of inactivity. Doing so can save you a lot of money in electricity over the years, not to mention prolong the life of the monitor.

ekoshyun, you haven't had a look at compiz have you? keep up.

as to the eco greenies as aboout half of these have static text I doubt saving screens is really the idea. it's more about being cool and we arent screwing the environment or wasting money on that elsewhere are we?

Sunspot - normally I'd be with you, but... that Flickr Fed clock is calling my name. It can't be a terrible waste to have your monitor double as a clock... oh well, I'll probably download it and never use it.

Do we have to attach eco-guilt to everything? I think this is a great post. Some really cool designs. And free, which is within my budget. Thanks, AT.

If you're that concerned about the environment, quit surfing the internet and turn off your computer.

No wonder there's starting to be an anti-green backlash. Pick your battles.

I agree that electric sheep should be on the list. It's free and it looks good (most of the time). Though, it does use a fair amount of resources.

Some of these don't seem to have much motion/action, especially since most of these ended up being clocks or calendars.

I love the Pixelbreaker clock, and I used it for a long time, but I stopped when I noticed etching on my Cinema display! It wasn't permanent (there are some apps out there that flash different colors to every pixel on the screen for a few hours to fix stuck pixels, and that worked for me), but now I'm too scared to try anything else :(

I love the built-in Mac RSS screensaver. I've got mine running the BBC news headlines at the moment, but it can show anything you please!
