Alertme.com

A DIY monitored home alarm. Although not yet launched and what appears to be UK only, the alertme.com kit seems to be an affordable and easy way to add some monitored security to your home. Since all the sensors are wireless, installation does not require opening up any walls, an especially good thing for renters.

The system revolves around the central hub which plugs into your internet connection. The additional sensors for the doors, windows, motion sensors then communicate with the hub. Should one of the sensors go off, a message is sent to Alertme.com which then notifies you and any other specified contacts of what is going on in your home. The only issue we see with this is that we now have to keep track of a bunch of battery operated sensors that would probably end up dying on us.

I've been looking for something like alertme, but want something with no fee and the ability to control lighting through the web. Any other products I should look into?

Hello all,

I'm very happy to see the interest in our product, so I thought I'd jump in on a few points. The obvious disclaimer is that I work for AlertMe.

Battery life was mentioned as a possible issue above, but our engineers expect to see between 1-3 years on normal usage for our accessories. Further, the system is self monitoring and will notify you when they start to run low. You will be able to easily order more as needed, and there is no need for an expensive service call to replace them.

We are looking at integration with lighting controllers already on the market, or perhaps developing this capability ourselves. It's great to hear people's interest, as that will steer our future efforts.

The service fee includes:
* Monitoring 24/7 by servers hosted in a nuclear bomb proof bunker.
* Free alerts sent to where you want to receive them. Normal usage of text messages is included.
* Mobile SIM card for backup communications if the broadband should fail.
* Automatic software updates including many significant new features and user requested enhancements.
* Customer support just in case.

It is true we're launching in the UK first, but we expect to roll out to other locations soon afterwards.
