Security Without a Cable? Let Your Laptop Shout For Help

030409-computer-lock.jpgWe all know laptop security as some sort of cable tethering your precious cargo to a desk. We have also blogged tips on keeping your laptop safe while you are out and about, but these are all preventative measures. What happens if your laptop actually does get stolen? Get the computer to yell at the thief and call attention to itself, that's what.

The Guardian shows us a few software options ranging from a friendly "$50 for my safe return" message all the way to a loud ""Help, I've been stolen!" cry. Has anyone tried (successfully) to use any of the solutions listed below?

haven't used the above softwares, but i've "rolled my own" wifi-isight based fallback based on some perl scripts which use iSightCapture, all run by a cron job that checks a personal website for an "am i stolen" flag. it's some dirty command-line-unix-magic, but it's free. And it could be enhanced with some wifi positioning features pretty easily.
