What's interesting to note is that the design trend in flat panel televisions is to directly incorporate these type of finishes directly into the frame. This past year's CES was filled with concept units with exotic wood finishes, lacquer and tinted metals that recognize customers are looking for flat panels that blend into decor instead of making themselves glaringly apparent. These type of wall units are a good compromise in the meantime, giving an attractive frame around flat sets and take advantage of the increasingly thin size and lighter weights of newer LCD screens (plasma, as much as we love their dark darks, comes at the price of a heavier weight).
