Considering a large-screen TV purchase--or planning on winning this one--but not sure what furniture to use? Large TVs can weigh well over 100 pounds, depending on how large you go.
Don't compromise on the weight standards if you're placing your TV directly on the furniture. You don't wan to loose the investment in the TV, nor wreck your electronics that are housed below the TV.
Sanus' Platinum Furniture line comes with extra-thick, tempered glass that's strong enough to hold virtually any TV, with easy-to-access wire-management channels that keep cables organized and hidden.

I guess I'm old school. I like the look of traditional furniture for these. Entertainment centers specially made for big screen sets do a good job of hiding components and you can use them to display stuff.
For my 50" Sony, I bought a generic solid oak entertainment center, removed the "grandma" style leaded glass and brass hardware and wood shelves.
The new hardware is "art deco" style from http://www.myknobs.com
A top-notch glass shop in Atlanta (http://www.on-sitesystems.com/) made some custom frosted glass door inserts, a local glass shop made inexpensive glass shelves for components & collectibles to replace the stodgy wood shelves that came with the unit. I had to drill extra holes for wiring but I hid all the holes - and wiring! - with some inexpensive sheer curtains that I hung in the very back of the cabinet with the help of cheap tension rods. The white of the sheers also gives nice contrast and helps bounce light inside enabling me to light the inside effectively with cheap rope lights I mounted inside the door frames where they're hidden. Oh, the same glass company in Atlanta made the mirrors for me based on the same design as the doors of the entertainment center.
Here's my solution (and very eclectic room ;->).
