Sideboard as Media Center Console

061808mondrian_1.jpgWe like this idea the Playmedesign blog proposed about using a sideboard as a media center to offset the heaviness of a flat panel display, whether wall mounted or placed ontop. The only issue is where to put the components, though you'd have plenty of drawers to store peripherals, wires, cords and a Blu-Ray discs inside the Mondrian.

I did this with a sideboard that didn't look nearly as weird. We ended up using some special drill bit to drill holes in the back of the cabinet for the cords to go through. It hold all components (surround sound, dvd player, cable box, wii, xbox, and playstation) and also has a drawer deep enough for file folders, plus two other drawers that hold remotes and games.

That is exactly what I plan to do next month when we upgrade our tv to a flat panel... Love the sideboard/ credenza idea!
