Test Your ISP With Speedtest

After today's news about Comcast's new 50Mbps service, we were curious how our internet provider measured up. So, we went out in search of a tool that would help us put our service to the test.

Speedtest calculates your broadband's connection via your web browser. You simply select a server and it does the rest. While we were happy with what ours found, Daily Buzz Blog used Speedtest to find out their speeds weren't living up to what had been promised. After a few calls to customer service, they were able to get a discount on their services. Speedtest is a great way to keep your ISP in check and see if you're really getting what you paid for.

okay i did it, but what do the numbers mean? 3681kbps on download, 698kbps on upload. what's normal, what's not?

(i've got optimum online/cablevision, in nyc.)

should i find out what's promised to me, or at least what's standard with their service?
