The i-Log is constructed out of an alder branch, two speakers integrated into each end of the 16" long log with iPod docking up top (note the flat bottom design so your log/sound system doesn't roll away into the fireplace). An aspiring DIY home technologist could possibly rig something together similar if supplied with the proper woodworking tools to hollow out a piece and install a small sized speaker system and outgoing power source for the dock. But we're hoping to see Straight Line Designs' i-Log in boutiques in the near future because we know our home creation would look nowhere as nice.
