This picture was taken as much for the staging as it is for the reality of the situation. Kate has escaped to the North Shore of Minnesota, which is along the northwest part of a Lake Superior, almost to Canada--but blogging must continue, and she didn't want to give it up for the time she was gone. To take advantage of a day of not blogging, she worked on it around the edges of her vacation, including, semi-jokingly, semi-seriously, at the campfire. So we want to know, has technology taken over too much of our existence, or has it made it easier?

I don't have a problem with technology per se. I do have an issue with people for whom connectivity is an addiction.

I'm incredibly grateful for how the internet has made it possible to get serious information easily and almost immediately, without treks to the library or (in many cases) access to expensive paid services. That part of tech has turned out to be everything I fantasized about having 20 years ago. I can sit in bed and watch stocks trade in Japan. That's damned cool.
The rest of technology, I just ignore. My cell number is a secret.
