While at CES, we saw this display at the Intel booth, comparing the price per MHz of computing power: back in 1982 it was $81.06, and now it's about $0.75. How long ago did you buy your first computer? What was it? Any recollection of how much it cost? How much did you pay for your latest computer? Let us know in the comments!

My first "computer" was the Atari 400, with the membrane keyboard.
In college, circa 1987-1991, my parents purchased an Epson Equity computer and dot matrix printer for me. No windows. And it used those huge literally "floppy" disks.
How times have changed . . . .

My first was a "portable" Conorona PPC-400 that weighed in at 40 lbs. Originally, it cost about $2k (I think), but it was a hand-me-down.
It was a 16-bit system using 8088 CPU operating at 3.77 MHz, 256Kb RAM. Video has 16x16 pixel characters and Super-Resolution 640x400 pixel graphics.

I got my first computer in high school. It was an Apple IIGS and my sister and I thought we were hot stuff with 512K RAM and a color printer.

I started with a Kaypro II portable CPM unit that still has the best keyboard I ever worked with and wordstar. I kept it for sentimental reasons; 25 years later it still works.

Sinclair ZX80, 1980.
Still have it with the original box, manual, and even the magazine ad.
