Survey: Do You Frame in Digital?

060308_sz_digitalframehome.jpgDigital picture frames are a curious invention. While an interesting concept for the digicam age, it's something we just can't seem to get our heads around. We've done roundups of the top ten displays out there, but it still seems so weird to power up your photos, so we thought we'd ask you dear readers...

And if you do, what's your fave frame out there? How do you use it? Have any of you made your own digital photo frame?

they're so tacky and don't even get me started on people who assume you want to see a slideshow of their kid/vacation/dog/wedding...ugh!

It seems like such a waste of electricity. Also, pictures look infinitely better on paper.

That room in the above photo is terrible. How could anyone even look at that frame when it's up so high on the wall?!

I don't have one and don't plan on purchasing one for myself. However they can be a great gift for the older set without computers. My sister bought one for her sons great-grandmother. All she does is send a new Micro SD with all the new pictures and the great grandmother sends the old one back in the mail. She loves it, and shares it with all her visitors.

Another reason to say no: they often come preloaded with spyware, or worse, just waiting for you and Grandma to trustingly hook them right up to your computers..

Wow! I'm surprised to find that there are no readers of a "Home Tech" site who like or appreciate digital photo frames.

I use a digital photo frame and love it. I built mine using components from an old laptop and a store-bought photo frame. (So, no viruses.) When we have people over we can change the image to one of the tens of thousands of photos we store on our computer to fit the occasion. (And we don't shackle our guests in front of any slideshows. Sounds like someone has some evil friends.)

The benefits of having such versatility greatly outweigh the difference in image quality, which only exists when standing inches from the frame (and we don't do that.)

As for the room, it's quite small and the small child's desk may give off the impression that the frame is much higher than it actually is. Regardless, the placement works quite well for us.

I like it so much I've been thinking about making another for work.
