We've been looking at table top stereo systems lately, and frankly, we're tired of every manufacter trying to sell you with their "novel" iPod dock stuck on top. Surely, the addition of a dock was clever at first, but it seems that every device has decided to give you a place for your iPod to roost. With a stereo is it even necessary, when you already have an input for your iPod or any other sound-producing device? What began as a seemingly harmless feature has take over and given the few of us with no interest in a glorified iPod stand very few design options. But maybe we're in the minority here, do any of you have thoughts on iPod docks?

Having a dock means charging and playing at the same time, without messy cables dangling around when not in use.

I don't even have an iPod. I only just got a dvd player this year, when my video store stopped renting vcr tapes.

I don't have a stereo, so my iPod speaker/dock is crucial.

happy at a hotel for the week where the alarm has an iPod dock. I thought I didn't need the portable one i'd brought with (secondary home unit) until I went to shower. 4/5 colleagues were also happy to find the dock.
