Survey: Do You Want To Watch Your TV In 3-D?

Last month, we managed to get our hands on some 3-D glasses for a single commercial during the Super Bowl and NBC's "Chuck," but was kind of let down with the performance of the glasses. To be honest, we got kind of nauseous a few minutes in and couldn't wear them for the rest of the time during Chuck...

According to Gregory's experience at CES 2009, there are certain manufacturers such as Samsung that made attempts into the 3-D display category without the requirement of glasses. In the end, you did manage to see the images on the screen in 3-D, but only at 9 specific viewing angles.

Though impressive, just watching it for a minutes caused eye strain and became "a bit dizzying and disorienting." Not our idea of fun, especially if everything were to be in 3-D for hours on end.

Personally, I find multi-touch technology and holographic screens to be far more interesting than 3-D TV. Especially when it comes to increasing eye strain (something many of us already are experiencing without the "3-D" ingredient thrown in, anything that's even remotely aggravating to our vision should probably be avoided at all costs.

When Meet The Robinsons came out we went and saw it in disney 3D. You don't need the goofy red blue lenses for it, it just plays at a super fast frame rate and the glasses help "decode it". A much better form of 3D.

HOWEVER. It was cool, but not for all the time. Why the heck does TV need to be 3D...?

I like the 3D you see in theaters these days (uses polarized light, if I'm not mistaken) but I'll like it best of all when all directors use 3D like Coraline's director did. There was no "well, that was definitely there for the 3D crowd" moment and it just added depth to the whole experience. It wasn't "look what we can do!" it was just another way to add to the experience. Once 3D gets to that point, then I might be interested.

3D is the thing electronics companies start talking about in down years when they aren't investing in new technology or willing to take a risk releasing higher priced product to a cash/credit strapped consumer base.

listen to all of you, whining about the future. I thought this was a tech blog. I just want some warm milk and my gramophone. you really don't believe that they will work out the kinks in 3d as time goes?
