Our changing way of shopping is changing the way the big boxes operate. Flat-screen TVs have been big sales drivers for Circuit City and its larger rival, Best Buy, but discount stores like Wal-mart have driven the margin down. Earlier last month, Circuit City announced its plan to close some of its stores and reexamine how it has done business. The key influencer of the change, has been how consumers research and shop on-line, which has led to stores closings.

What are the best and worst attributes about the way you shop for electronics?

The Best Buy image is from Ian Muttoo, and the European Electronics image is from Daquella manera.

actually, I don't have a favorite way to shop for electronics generically. The computer and the cell phone were online and by phone. The iPod and digital camera were online and in store. The CD player and the TV set are so old that in store was the basic option. Not sure what system I'll use when I replace them.
