The LED Ripple Coffee Table Loves to be Touched

It's official: We're living in the future. Robots wash our dishes, our kitchen appliances have TVs on them and our coffee tables light up and react to whatever we put on them...

The Ripple Interactive LED Coffee Table, the result of a collaboration between Because We Can and Evil Mad Science, reacts to your hands (or your drinks) whenever you set them on it's surface thanks to a built-in optical sensor.

The sensor is connected to 480 super-bright white LEDs that will flicker and ripple like a starry night sky, making this the perfect table to liven up a cocktail party.

The table comes in three lengths—22" inches long, 40" inches long, or 58" inches long—but they're all more expensive than we can afford. If you're willing to shell out $1500-$2100 and wait 6 to 8 weeks for delivery, head over here to put in an order.

Just an observation, but at the same time we are trying to live "green", there seems to also be a move to use more electricity and glitz up our everyday items. Not everything we own needs to have bells and whistles. Like I said, it's just a thought.

LED are about as "green" as you can get, tech-wise.

It's not like this puppy uses disposable flashbulbs to light up or anything. Since when does green = technophobia?

I love this. Reminds me of Ingo Maurer's work.
