One of the more sophisticated pieces of high end furniture to hit the streets we've seen lately, the WONK Astoria Media Cabinet comes in flashing those modern right angles we've all become so fond of, with a set of beautiful black lacquered doors to match the sexy maple finish. If that's not enough to get you drooling, just wait until you check out the price on this bad boy...
We can't say for sure, but the cabinet doors appear to feature those nifty IKEA-esque pressure brackets (the ones that keep kitchen drawers from slamming), but we can't tell for sure because there's not much information available on the product. Best to ask them before making a purchase to see if this feature is truly implemented.
For those who want a little more customization, you'll be happy to hear that you're able to choose from a whole swatch of colors and finishes to create a style that matches your decor.
However, if you're just looking for the standard model, the WONK Astoria Media Cabinet is available for $950 direct. Just under a grand, which is pretty good for a piece of high-end furniture as reflected in our previous comparisons.

That's a nice piece but it seems to me that it's somewhat impractical as a media cabinet for a couple of reasons. First, the doors are wooden and therefore no IR remote's ever going to get through them so you'd have to leave them open in order to adjust the volume or anything else. Second, 18" deep... :( Sigh, my amp is a little under 17" deep, and when you add connections and cables that's closer to 18". I wonder what the usable interior space is on that piece but my guess is it won't be 18".
I guess I'll have to keep looking.
Alex.

You can get it done cheaper by going to a local cabinet shop.

Wonk has to be the most overpriced store in NYC. The design is about one small step above Ikea but the prices are DWR. Ludicrous. I've been in both the Wililamsburg and Dumbo stores probably 20 times...I've never seen a single customer ever in there. Not hard to know why.

I live around the corner from that joint. Not a fan. Everything looks sort of... wonky... in a bad way. Like 90's post modern, slightly out of touch, chunky. It isn't just 'right angles' that make something sleek. The proportions of that thing are all screwy and inelegant. And most receivers and big bulky junk DVR cable boxes could use more like 20 - 21" of clearance these days. Just buy a simple, modernist eames era credenza and remove the particleboard back panel for cabling and air ventilation (provided you are going to back it up to a wall like most people do). I did this for about $600 and it easily looks as nice as (and more unique than) anything from DWR or BoConcept, etc.
