While the old player only looks like a cassette, this one actually functions as a casette adapter. especially handy for those of us with ancient car stereos. It's definitely an improvement for those who have cassette adapters with a cord connected to your iPod (Why haven't you gotten the iTrip?), because once you've stored your music on it, it dissappears in your tape deck and functions almost like a built-in MP3 player would.
