Panasonic Proves Plasma Is Still Big, Twilight Ready

061909_panasonic_85incher2.jpgThere's nothing wrong with dreaming, which is what you'll probably be doing once you've learned that Panasonic is planning on rolling out a brand-spankin' new 85-inch 1080p plasma screen this coming Fall. Non-stop drooling aside, we're pretty sure we could use a new patio instead of a TV screen that costs as much as a new Prius. But c'mon, who needs a Prius when you could be watching Twilight in splendid HD, right?

If you're looking for the nitty gritty, we have it here: the monstrous 85-incher will be featuring 40,000:1 contrast ratio (2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio), an amazing 3.9 inches thickness, and a 100,000 hour battery life. Don't plan on mounting this on your wall with just a VESA mount, though - this sucker weighs in at a hefty 287 pounds of plasma goodness.

Features wise, you'll have your DVI, dual-link HD-SDI input (not too sure what that does), and an Ethernet port. There's no word on pricing yet, but seeing as their 103-inch Panasonic HDTV runs about $70,000, we're guessing it'll be selling like McLarens at $30,000 or so.

theater4.jpgNot in the mood for spending like a madman in a dire economy? We understand. Perhaps a projector (Yes, we know it's not the same, but it works) may be more along the lines of your "lifestyle within reason." Not tired of it myself. I like learning about new technology whether I'm going to buy it myself or not it is good to be in the know.

Prices are always bound to drop. I recall 52-inch LCDs costing around $10k when they first came out. Now you can grab a decent one for $1500...

The dual link HD-sdi is a rediculously fast connection for uncompressed HD... most likely it'd be used to screen digital dailies or edits.
